Today Kym was joined by Dave from band Inconia for a chat

To start, Inconia is a studio based project with Dave and Lee, who couldn’t make it today. It’s been going on for around 2 years. The pair met when Lee was playing in bands. They ended up in a rock band playing covers around pubs and clubs. After getting their own homes, they decided to get into the world of cabaret.

The next topic was musical history. Dave explained how his mother was a pianist and got him into play at around 7. A friend of his, Phil would be the lead guitarist of Motorhead for 30 years, but before taught Dave how to play his first 3 chords on guitar. He was given his older guitars and they were playing by the age of 13.

Kym asked Dave for the backstory of the name Inconia, to which the answer was “made up”. He was looking online to find a name that hadn’t been taken, so he just made up a name. Kym asked to give the word a meaning. Dave replied that it has connotations of a magical land somewhere. On the same topic, having a unique name works in the age of social media as you often come across multiple bands of the same name across the world, which can make it hard trying to find someone in specific.

One of the Inconia songs we played was called The Drifter, Dave gave backstory to the song. It was a mix of both Dave and Lee. Lee sent Dave a backing with a footnote asking if it was any good. Dave went on a walk listening to it and made some notes. They sent it back and forth until the track was made. It came together in a few days, the quickest of the album.

As typical, we played a tune on a kazoo. Myself, Kym and Dave took part in playing a section of Bohemian Rhapsody on kazoo, complete with harmonies.
