Episode 81: The end
Friends Are Evul has been through many different artist personas and making different kinds of music for each. They became bored of making Synth Pop songs, their latest genre is more on the hip hop side. They mentioned that they like building on themselves and evolving.
Starting off the show with some original music, we had a listen to ‘Muse’ by Mali Haf. The song has been around for a while but she said it has been hard finding the right version.
Something interesting is that someone has always been someone crying when the song is played live. Mali noted that the song is softer and a step away from the more pop stuff she usually does.
The first Friends Are Evul track we took a listen to was ‘There Is a Hole’. The song was created 2 weeks ago, being commissioned by Disability Arts Cymru. They did the same for many Cardiff based artists: commissioning them to make a piece about their Disability. This track specifically is about being an undiagnosed Autistic person.
Now for the game we have been playing as of late: seeing who can say the longest Welsh place name the quickest. Mali had an advantage as she is a Welsh speaker and her tracks are sung in Welsh. She said the town name in a quick 3.51 seconds. Evul is learning Welsh so they had less of an advantage. They were able to say it in 7.55 seconds.
Keys then asked both artists what kind of music they are listening to at the moment. Mali has been a Matt Maltese fan for a while now. She mentioned that the kind of music she listens to influences what she creates. Evul answered with Bulgarian Folk music, being quite a different answer. They noted that it feels like you’re going into battle.
Finally: What’s next and where you can find them:
Evul is on Instagram and Soundcloud as friendsareevul. Also as May Swoon on most social platforms. They are wanting to release more of the Disability Arts Cymru music they have made. They also want to release an album under the name Friends Are Evul.
Mali is on all platforms, social and music as either malihaf malihahahaf. She is wanting to try and break into the Celtic Scenes as well as staying in the Welsh scene in terms of music.
