Today Kym was joined by Matt Kiano for a catch up

In the almost 2 years since Matt last came in, he has formed a band which he had spoken about getting together as at the time he was still playing solo. They have spent the last year gigging anywhere they can go.

Back in November he released a song called 5 and a Half Minutes which ironically is only 3 and a half minutes. The song is loosely based on a book called House Of Leaves which has a part about a corridor which takes 5 and a half minutes to get from one side to another. He thought the idea was cool and he likes the book, so he wrote the song and he can answer about the length and title whenever anyone asks.

Following on from the inspiration of one song, Kym asked Matt about where he typically gets the ideas for his songs from. He answered that it depends: sometimes he can be watching a film and a certain line of dialogue sticks out to him.

Matt came in to talk about an upcoming gig in Tredegar which has the fitting name “Pop Punk Riot in Tredegar”.  It’s at the Kidz R Us Venue 1 building in Tredegar on the 15th of May at 7PM. In Matt’s words it’s a celebration of Pop Punk Music. There’s going to be lots of artists there, including General Waste and Love On Loan.

Back to Matt’s band, it’s currently unnamed, however, they have a facebook page called Matt Kiano and The Birdbrains, so that name is potentially on the table. Matt and Bassist Jay have been best friends for a while. They have always done music together.

Matt’s main instrument is guitar. He would love to play piano, he has tried but can’t quite get it. As for the kazoo, as demonstrated on the show, he’s not too bad at it, playing Funky Town with Kym.You can listen to the full show here
