Today, Kym and Keys were joined by Paul Kaye Jones in the studio on this weeks Pure Local Extra show

Paul is a retired musician, he no longer makes anything professionally. However, he has plenty of stories to tell from before he retired, making for a very interesting show.

As usual, we stated the show with a song from our guest. This week, we listened to ‘When The World Was Mine’. Paul explained that this song was written 10 years ago and was not originally written for his album. The song is about a time when he had his heart broken, a quite unexpected event. The song is about the happiness from the relationship quickly turning to devastation. The song being about asking where all the feelings of happiness went.

The first of many stories to be told on the show this afternoon was how Kym and Paul were introduced to each other. Kym had found a CD sent to her by Paul, she had intended to take some of the songs off it to play on air. However, she had completely forgotten about the CD, finding it a year after it being sent. The ordeal made Kym think “why hasn’t Paul been on the show?” Which leads us to this afternoon.

As well as songwriting, Paul has written some books. Writing a book is something he has always wanted to do. The reason as to why the books actually became a reality is quite a peculiar one. One day, Paul’s car wouldn’t start. There was nobody around to help, so he went back inside and decided he was going to start his novel. So far, he has written 6 novels. The one that has been published, entitled “Ballytreeny Boy” is about his friend from very humble beginnings who went on to be a successful business man.

The next song of Pauls we listened to was “Lullaby”. The story behind this song was that it was written for Greg Rowlands (a local folk singer) as he had recently had a grandchild. The song being written for his and his wife’s grandchild.

Paul has worked with many bands and singers from the 60s. One being Joe Brown, his stagecraft fascinated Paul. Paul took notes and inspiration from each act he has worked with. Bit by bit, he’s built his own style from other artists.
