Bailey & Dom from Sydney Fate were finally able to come in for a catch up with Kym

The last time we got to see them was last year at the Love Live Music Awards when they won the award for best Metal/Punk band.

First of all, what has been happening with the band recently? There have been a lot of new songs in the works, the main goal is to get a new album out. They need to get some more tracks written but the next step is to hopefully record.

The band has some history, they have been together for a while, going back to when they were in school. The first variation of Sydney Fate was in 2013. They broke up, however their bassist told Bailey he missed it and wanted to do it again. They got the members, new and old, and it came together.

We listened to the Sydney Fate track “Klexos”. The track is not played much anymore, but it was fun to write. Someone who wasn’t an original member of the band brought it forward. The song is about a state of mind, a personal relationship from one of the members that ended quite badly. On the theme of things that once was, the word klexos means the art of dwelling on the past.

Next, the topic of instruments. Both play guitar and can play piano a bit, Dom more than Bailey. Bailey plays bass, his first role in a band. Kym asked what instruments they’d love to play. Dom answered with Harp and Bailey with Fiddle.

The ever loved “Kazoo that Tune” took place as usual. All four of us took part in playing both Crazy Train and Fly Me To The Moon.

The next track was “Atone”. The song is essentially about the rebirth of Sydney Fate. After the release of their first album, they knew they wanted to step up their game. Atone is about how things are constantly changing and developing. It was originally called Flames but they thought it was too generic, atone is more biblical and fits the themes more.

Their next gig is at McCann’s on July 18th in Newport. They’re doing many festivals across next year. They also have their own comic book series on their website which you can buy to support them.
