Episode 78: What'll be in the box at Elimination Chamber?
Marcus Harris could hardly wait. Saturday night meant one thing—movie night! His mum had promised to take him to the cinema to see the brand-new pirate adventure film that everyone at school had been talking about.
Marcus tugged on his favourite pirate shirt, slipped his jacket over it, and made sure he had his biggest bucket of popcorn and fizzy drink ready as they found their seats. The huge screen loomed in front of him, glowing faintly as the adverts started. He could feel the excitement bubbling inside him like a fizzy bottle that had just been shaken.
But there was one small problem. His mischievous glass eye, Nelson, was twitching with energy. Nelson always got restless when things went quiet, and the cinema was very, very quiet. Marcus leaned toward the bucket of popcorn and muttered, “Behave tonight, Nelson. We’re here to watch the movie, not star in it. No funny business!”
Nelson gave a sly sparkle, which Marcus knew was his way of saying, We’ll see about that.
As the trailers ended and the film began, the room darkened. The cinema fell silent apart from the crunch of popcorn and the soft whispers of excitement. On screen, pirate ships clashed on stormy seas, and cannons boomed across the water. Marcus leaned forward in delight. This was going to be brilliant.
Plop!
Marcus froze. He looked down into his bucket of popcorn. Nelson had slipped out of his socket and landed right in the middle of the salty, buttery pile. Before Marcus could reach in, Nelson bounced onto the armrest and rolled down toward the front row.
“Oh no, not again,” Marcus whispered urgently, sliding down in his seat.
Nelson bounced onto the cinema floor, zipped between people’s feet, and then sprang—boing!—straight onto the glowing screen. Gasps echoed through the cinema. There, larger than life, was Nelson, his shiny blue-green eye grinning cheekily at the audience.
The children howled with laughter. “Look at that eye!” shouted one boy. Another girl clapped her hands and cried, “Best movie EVER!”
On screen, the pirates didn’t know what had hit them. Nelson chased the villain across the deck, rolled over the captain’s hat, and even bounced into the treasure chest, scattering gold coins everywhere. The audience roared with laughter, thinking it was part of the film.
Meanwhile, Marcus slunk lower in his seat, his face red as a tomato. “Nelson! Get back here!” he hissed. But Nelson was having far too much fun being the star of the show.
Finally, during the big sword fight, Marcus crept down the aisle, waited for his moment, and—snatch!—grabbed Nelson just as the credits started to roll. He popped him back into place and muttered, “You just had to steal the spotlight, didn’t you?”
Nelson twinkled mischievously, clearly pleased with his big-screen debut.
As the audience clapped and cheered, Marcus sighed. “One day, Nelson, we’re going to get through a movie without you causing chaos.”
Nelson sparkled again. Marcus knew that day would probably never come.
