Which?! Celebrity Was in Newport??
Hold onto your sonic screwdrivers—Newport just got a sprinkle of star power! Christopher Eccleston, your one-time Ninth Doctor, was spotted this week filming in and around Upper Dock Street and John Frost Square. As he told locals,
“It’s lovely being in Newport,”
and who can blame him? Eccleston is part of a small, passionate crew shooting ‘About a Bell’, an indie film from Hello Deer. The story follows a Syrian refugee and a young librarian on a heartfelt mission to save a church bell. Alongside him are top-notch actors like Omid Djalili and Simon Callow—so expect some serious talent on screen
Filming wraps in Newport soon before moving on to Cardiff and Belgium. No release date yet, but if this cameo is anything to go by, we can’t wait to see Newport shining in the credits,

It’s all smiles at Sunnybank Nursery in Newport after a glowing review from Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW)!
The nursery, tucked away on Stow Park Avenue, impressed inspectors with major improvements—especially around safeguarding, staff supervision, and baby-room upgrades. The result? A fully compliant, happy, and safe space for little learners.
Inspectors loved seeing confident, settled children enjoying playtime indoors and out, while staff were praised for being caring, well-trained, and totally on top of their game.
Sunnybank had a few things to fix last time around, but they’ve clearly rolled up their sleeves and delivered. Now? No issues, no worries—just a fantastic nursery doing what it does best.
