Who Is Kym?

I’m Kym Frederick and I first came to Newport City Radio in the Spring of 2014. I dabble in all sorts of things here but mostly anything to do with live and local music. 

Q. Have you ever collected anything ?

A. I had an impressive old stamp collection when I was a kid. I inherited it from my Grandad but I don’t have it now.  Mostly, though I collect happy memories.

Q. What is one thing that Newport is famous for?

A.  Let’s go for Tredegar house. It’s now the property of the National Trust but it was built as a residence for the influential Morgan family

Q. What is your karaoke song

A. I do an awesome rendition of Shirley Bassey’s This is My Life or Kiki Dee’s I’ve Got The Music in Me!

Q. Who is the most eccentric member of your family? Why?

A. To be fair, we’re all a bit kooky but I guess the answer has to be me or my sister. We love practical jokes and general silliness

Q. Which would you rather take part in, Great British Bake-off or Strictly Come Dancing?

A. That’s a hard one for me because I love both cooking and dancing but as I won a bucket load of medals for ballroom dancing as a kid, I’m going to take the opportunity to dust off my dancing shoes. 

Q. What’s the best birthday or Christmas present you ever had?

A. Worst gift is between a can of Slim Fast and a toilet seat! Best present – my labrador puppy, Sam. All chosen by my husband!

Q. Tell us something great about Newport City Radio?

A. It’s local radio for local people

 Q. What’s your favourite item of clothing – do you have a garment that brings you good luck?

A. My fringed hippy vest and my big canary yellow sunglasses….together!
