Starting the new year off with a bang

The Newport City Show kicked off 2026 with Leanne Rowe, founder of KLAR HR, an independent HR consultancy based in Newport and working with businesses across the UK.

With over 20 years’ experience across public, private, and voluntary sectors, Leanne set up KLAR HR nearly six years ago after leaving the corporate world. Her mission is simple: make HR clear, human, and supportive, not scary.

What KLAR HR Does

KLAR HR works with growing organisations, whether they have in-house HR or none at all. A typical starting point is Leanne’s HR Health Check, which reviews contracts, policies, compliance, and people practices using a red–amber–green system. From this, businesses receive a clear 12-month plan focused on protecting the organisation and supporting staff.

“Most businesses start off more red and amber than they realise — and that’s okay,” Leanne explains.

Communication Over Compliance

While compliance is essential, Leanne believes most workplace issues come down to communication. Regular one-to-ones, honest conversations, and understanding what motivates people can prevent small problems becoming big ones.

“People avoid difficult conversations, but avoiding them only makes things worse,” she says.

KLAR HR supports managers with practical training in people skills, helping them handle probation, absence, performance issues, and sensitive situations with confidence and clarity.

Looking Ahead to 2026

With major UK employment law changes coming into force in 2026 — including updates to sick pay, parental leave, and wellbeing responsibilities — Leanne encourages businesses to prepare early.

“Knowing your team and managing wellbeing properly will be more important than ever,” she says.

A Human Approach to HR

At the core of KLAR HR is a belief in putting people first. Leanne’s approach is warm, direct, and practical — helping businesses stay compliant while creating healthier, happier workplaces.
