For the first show of 2026, new host Keys was joined by myself and Dee to get the new year started off with some local music and a chat about (almost) anything

To start off the show, Dee gave us a little explanation as to what type of music he makes. He described his ‘sound’ as a blend of genres, especially taking inspiration from the genres he likes. He finds a lot of love with alternative ‘weird’ music, each element having different origins. He described what he makes as having fun with music. As said by Keys, describing Dee’s genre is a little hard.

An artist in which Dee has taken lots of inspiration from is Tash Sultana, being his most loved artist of all time. He described the way they play being similar to himself and how they came from busking roots which he has lots of respect for. He explained how he has so much love for them, not just in terms of music.

The first song from Dee we had a listen to was ‘Missing Not Missing You’. Dee explained the idea behind the song, that being the idea of having moved on from someone but all of a sudden realising you haven’t moved on from then and missing when you didn’t miss the person. The song is from his first ever EP ‘Loop Theory101’. The EP was played live all in one take. No practice, he just winged it.

Keys had to ask Dee on the backstory of his name. He said that he wrote it down somewhere and every time he looked at it he found it funny. He added that when people see his name while busking they laugh at it a little.

On the show last year, we played with kazoos and had the odd game throughout the year. Through 2026, Keys came up with a challenge. A lot of people are familiar with the Welsh town ‘lanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch’, the town with the longest name in Wales. When it comes to pronouncing it, many people end up completely butchering it. Throughout the year, Keys has planned to ask whoever appears on the show to pronounce it and whoever has the shortest time at the end of the year wins. Kym, our other host on Pure Local Extra currently has the shortest time of 3.41 seconds, the legitimacy is currently being questioned. Dee had a go and said it in 8.37 seconds. I had a go at the challenge and got it in 5.35 seconds. The current standings are Kym in first, myself in second and Dee in third, but that’s bound to change in the coming weeks.

We then listened to ‘Slide’ by Dee as a collaboration with Mista-Ree and Hannah Scoulding. Dee explained that he was busking just outside the Kingsway Centre when Mista-Ree came up to him for advice on busking. He gave some notes and told him he could set up in the area not far from him. After finishing, Dee went over to listen and was obsessed with everything. They exchanged socials and got asked if he wanted to collab.

You can find Dee under ‘itsmedeliciousdee’ on all the usual social media and just ‘Delicious Dee’ on Spotify.
