City Council set to launch pop-up recycling centers starting this weekend.

Pop up Recycling Centre to start on Saturday

On Saturday 25th October Newport City Council are set to hold the first in a series of pop-up recycling centre events in Maindee. 

The aim of the pop-ups is to take the Council’s recycling services into local communities, helping the people of Newport responsibly dispose of their household waste by bringing recycling opportunities closer to them.

The first of these pop-up centres is at Maindee car park on Chepstow Road, this Saturday, between 9am-2.30pm.  

There is no need to book ahead. The Council suggests that as long as you live in Newport, just pop along and bring your recycling!

What you can bring 

The Council suggests bring along any of the following items: 

  • Wood 
  • Hard plastics (e.g., toys) 
  • Green/garden waste 
  • Cardboard, plastic, paper, cartons, glass (recyclable materials normally collected weekly at the kerbside) 
  • Textiles (reusable clothing – no bedding/curtains) 
  • Small waste electricals (e.g., toasters, kettles, microwaves) 
  • Batteries
  • Books and media (CDs, DVDs etc.) 
  • Reusable items – (items that do not need repair, from furniture, to electrical items to bric-a-brac. No helmets (motorbike & cycle), child car seats or mattresses.  

What you cannot bring 

The Council say that the pop up will not be accepting any of the following: 

  • Hygiene and clinical waste
  • Unsorted waste/black bags 
  • Rubble 
  • Tyres 
  • Plasterboard 
  • Any hazardous waste (e.g., asbestos) 
  • Car batteries 
  • Chemicals, paints, oils 
  • Mattresses 
  • Gas bottles 
  • Fluorescent tubes
