scape rooms have taken the UK by storm over the past couple of years. An immersive, puzzling, problem-solving experience like no other. They are a growing industry in South Wales and further afield.
Back in May, Newport’s first Escape Room opened and ever since teams have been lining up to face the challenge of the ‘Torture Corps’. Now, just in time for Halloween, the venue has announced the opening of a second room called ‘Host’.
This is just the news fans of the 'Torture Corps' room have been waiting for. I love escape rooms but their downside is that you can only do them once. As soon as you have escaped a room, the mystery is gone and it cannot be relived. This means that Escape venues across the UK have to continue to reinvent, innovate and create new rooms.
To launch the new room the owners of The Escape Rooms are hosting a special event on Tuesday, October 31st, which will include an after-dark movie screening. Amazingly, the duo has chosen to make this event completely free of charge to thank people for the incredible support they have been giving since the opening.
The event will take place in the Gallery Space above Newport Market. It starts at 6pm, with a screening of Ridley Scott's Sci-fi Horror Alien to begin at 7pm. Stunning street food will be on offer from Sicily to Seattle and there will be drinks available from Tiny Rebel Brewing Co.
Admission to this event is completely free, but spaces are limited. Don’t wait around to book your tickets for this one as it is sure to be popular. Tickets for the launch are now available via www.escaperoomsnewport.co.uk or The Escape Rooms Facebook page @theescaperooms.
The Escape Rooms team are keeping quiet about the content of their new room, but have said that they've upped the ante. We do know that the new room has a science-fiction edge to it, but things have been kept frightening. Could the choice of film for the launch be a clue to the content of the new room?
Tickets to try the room yourself are set to go on sale this Halloween, Tuesday, October 31st.
I headed down to The Escape Rooms earlier in the year to try out their first room, 'Torture Corps'. From the moment I stepped through the doorway and down into the basement, it felt as though I had been transported into a different world. Away from the busy street, the venue was eerily quiet as we put on our orange jumpsuits ready for the challenge to commence.
Staging and props are excellent throughout and owner Elinor Daniel was on hand to guide us when we got completely stuck. Elinor was helpful and enthusiastic throughout booking, briefing and celebratory photos. The owner’s love of their business really shines through and this is the thing that will keep locals coming back as new rooms open.
If you haven’t tried 'Torture Corps' yet, here’s a trailer of what to expect.
Ticket prices range from £13 - £17.50 per person depending on group size and can be purchased via the Escape Rooms website or their Facebook page.
