Kymin Managing Director, Robin Hall said: “Live music has always and continues to play an increasingly important part in our city. Kymin, an independent business based in Newport, is delighted to be able to demonstrate our support by backing the inaugural Love Live Music Awards 2017.”
South Wales Argus Editor, Nicole Garnon said: “We’re pleased to support and be associated with these inaugural live music awards for the city of Newport. Live music is playing an increasingly important part in the local economy and involving many people in all sorts of ways across our city.”
Newport City Radio Managing Director, Ian Lamsdale thanking Kymin for its support, said the Love Music Awards are the brain child of Newport City Radio volunteer Kym Frederick.
Ian said: “The Love Live Music Awards have been launched as a response to the demand to recognise the enormous wealth of live music talent there is in the city of Newport, and to acknowledge the widespread benefits live music and musicians deliver to the city.
We are asking contacts who book bands for local pubs and venues to suggest and nominate acts for the various categories. Adam Prosser and Kym Frederick from Newport City Radio are also giving their input as they invite singers onto their radio shows.
In April, Newport City Radio launched a song contest, inviting musicians to submit an original track. After a staggering response, we’ve now ended up with a shortlist of five brilliant songs. This month's videos will be created from these selected tracks by filmmaker Hayden Rushworth, based at the NEON, and three of our volunteers from Newport City Radio, Shannon Dyer, Gareth Willey and Coral Houtman. These videos will be online by September 1st, when voting will start. Voting will close fifteen minutes before the end of the awards ceremony at the NEON on Sunday, October 1st.
The awards event is an opportunity to see the very best musical talent that Newport has to offer. Legendary Newport DJ, Scratchmaster Slider, who has his own radio show on Newport City Radio every Monday, will open the event. In between the awards, we’ll have musical breaks from some of the great acts we’ve met this year and a headline act to end the afternoon. If you love live music as much as we do, it would be great to see you there.”
Newport City Radio volunteer Kym Frederick said: “Last year, we spoke to many singers and bands and asked them how we could best support them. They told us that they love coming into our live music shows every Thursday and wanted their music to be promoted as much as possible. We gave them that assurance and then created the idea of an annual award ceremony”
Ian said: “Kym’s idea was amazing. It’s a kind of local version of the Brit Awards. I’m aware how many open mic nights we have in our city and the great pubs who book some outstanding acts. We’ve reached out to local pub owners for their input in helping shortlist and judge some of the awards. We also love having performers coming into our studio. The Love Live Music Awards will showcase this and the achievements of those in the local music scene”.
