ello and welcome back to my monthly music series here on Newport City Radio where I share with you what tracks I have been in love with this past month!
September has been a big month for me as I officially started Uni! The start of uni can only mean one thing; long bus rides full of some banging tunes. Here are the songs that have made my September:
This is a track I have been in love with since the very end of August and, shockingly, I am not fed up of it yet. I don’t even remember how I came to discover this one, all I know is that I have listened to it at least once every day for the past month. In fact, I have been obsessed with the band's whole collection of music that’s on Spotify.
This track is a fun and upbeat love song about that time when you're just completely obsessed with your other half. I just can’t get over how catchy this song is with its mixture of synths with electronic keyboards as well as different layers of drums and beats that give the song that jumping beat that makes you just want to move. I’ve often had to stop what I’m doing and bop along to this one without a care in the world.
What?! Shannon’s recommending a country song?! Yes, yes I am, and it’s all Adam L Davies’ fault!
I am not a massive fan of country music apart from the odd banger from Carrie Underwood (c’mon who doesn’t love a bit of 'Before He Cheats'?) but when Adam decided to torture us in the office one afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised.
'Roots' is a lovely song about not forgetting where you come from no matter where life takes you. These wonderful, warm lyrics teamed with this track's beautiful instrumentation is something special. The song builds gently then all at once with booming drum beats and elegant fiddles teamed with the smooth country twang of the lead singers voice. It is genuinely a brilliant song and it makes me want to look up other songs by this band.
I know what you’re thinking, but I have a justification I promise. Dirty Dancing is one of my mother’s all-time favourite movies and I always thought it was a bit pants. But last month she made me sit down and watch it properly from start to finish and, well, I kinda love it now. Ever since I watched it I have been listening to some of the songs from the soundtrack, and this is the one that has stuck in my head the most. Don’t judge me!
An oldie but one hell of a goodie, and again, I have justification for this one too. I watched Lady Gaga’s brand new Netflix documentary Five Foot Two (you can read my review about it here) and it was such a good watch that it made me want to revisit her older music. I forgot how much I used to love her first album and this song in particular. This used to be one of thee songs to have on your phone when I was in high school. This song has been in my ears mainly for the nostalgia.
I’m not a Swifty but when this banger dropped, oh my I was loving it! Well, except the hook of the song. I still think that part is a bit pants. But I love the rest of the song, like the badass lyrics of the song. Who doesn’t love a good revenge song? I also love the whole mix of the song which surprised me when I first listened to the song. I’m so used to hearing cheesy, poppy love songs from here (which get on my nerves) but when this dropped, it was quite refreshing to hear from Tay Tay herself. It is indeed a banger.
