Another month, another blog full of bangers! Not just that, another blog full of poppy and bouncy summer tracks... what have I become?
“Don’t Take the Money” – Bleachers
Another song that had ended up in my favourites through a Spotify recommendation and it is not just this song I am loving, it is the whole album!
This song is brilliantly constructed as it ebbs and flows to different tempos, intensity and vocals throughout the song. It is a really upbeat mix that I can’t help but sway during the smooth and slow parts and dance like nobody is watching during the high-energy parts of this bittersweet love song.
“Issues” – Julia Michaels
This one has been a grower for me - with the song being released at the beginning of the year and I am only just now digging it.
I love the simplicity in the music of this song, especially that constant deep thump throughout. I think another reason why I have fallen in love with this song so much is Julia’s voice. It’s subtle and smooth with a ton of range that is explored here. My favourite part of the song is the bridge – the way is vocally constructed is something that just rolls off the tongue when you sing along!
“Break Up Every Night” – The Chainsmokers
I literally cannot believe I like The Chainsmokers now… what have I turned into? My inner rock chick is shook!
This song is just great. Its fast and energetic one minute then it calms down to a slower pace before become loud and bouncy again. This song really does build up to an epically noisy finish and it is especially wonderful to listen to with headphones on as you can really here this progression with intimate listening like that – I adore songs that do this. I also love how the some combines traditional piano and electronic keyboards in the mix of stuff that s going on in the music. I think it adds something almost 3-dimensional to the track because of how well these two versions of basically the same instrument work together.
“Power” – Little Mix
I don’t think I have ever loved a Little Mix song as much as I do this one – and considering I can count their songs that I like with one hand, that is a huge compliment from me!
It’s the vocal performance on this one that got me hooked. The opening verse is almost screamed. The vocal is so sassy and gritty that it is empowering to hear regardless of the lyrics – it just so happens that the lyrics of this song are very empowering! It is all about girl power and with these huge vocals throughout the song reinforces that. There are also some epic one liners within the song that just make it for me.
