ast Tuesday night (20th February, 2018) BBC World Wide Ltd. unveiled the new logo for the upcoming series of Doctor Who. It follows after the announcement of who will be joining the show's first female lead in the TARDIS. It has also been accompanied with photos of the Beeb filming on location in Cape Town, South Africa and Sheffield, UK. However the logo has been a series of announcements that us fans have been eager to see after an unofficial design went viral on Twitter.
Since the logo has been unveiled many people on social media has already started their analysis of the image, and many have already come to the conclusion that the “O” at the end of “WHO” is subtly hiding the female symbol. Not only have the people of the Twitter-sphere caught on but the Radio Times has too!
You know I thought the logo looks femine.— Ian (@IanOTimelord) February 21, 2018
Even though the logo isn’t as bold as the others it does share a similarity with the supposedly “official” new logo that went viral on Twitter late last year. The logo that was designed and shared by Twitter User: @hijakejohnstone has a 1970’s look of it with a modern twist and it does actually share a similarity with the final design that the BBC unveiled. Overall I do like the two! Both logos look great and does show a flare of the magic that Doctor Who thrives on.
Well, here it is! @bbcdoctorwho have finally unveiled the official Doctor Who logo.— Jake Johnstone (@hijakejohnstone) February 20, 2018
See how it compares to the one I designed last month which went viral...
Which do you prefer?https://t.co/FaYBdeRLZ0 pic.twitter.com/d071nSBMX3
The more I hear of the direction they're aiming to take the show with Jodie Whittaker as the female lead, the more I'm eager to see what the weird and wonderful that the universe has in store for her. Anyway if the idea of having the Doctor as a woman doesn’t work they could always change it back to a male. That’s the beauty of science fiction, the possibilities are endless!
So we’ve been shown the new Doctor and her companions along with the new TARDIS exterior and the logo, we just need to hear the new Theme Tune. Which I believe we get to hear a small snippet in the video that revealed the logo in question, listen carefully and you can JUST make outa a tinsy bit of what could be the theme tune. However at the start of video I can't help but think that it’s a lager advertisement, but jokes aside I am looking forward to see it blast its way on my television screen from the depths of the time vortex!
I’m also eager to see what the new sonic-screwdriver is going to look like. With Chibnall being an avid fan of the original series, I have a feeling he may try and push for the sonic to have a Classic Series look, because after all the TARDIS does now look very late 60’s. I can’t help but think of the TARDIS looking like something from the Troughton era, it’s just that blue lantern on the roof. Its HIDEOUS!
Other fans share the same opinion, one of the many fans that have expressed his opinion of the new TARDIS exterior is YouTube's Batmanmarch aka Matthew Toffolo, who is an avid fan of the show and not forgetting Clayton Hickman. Who's considered to be an expert in the evolution of the TARDIS exteriors throughout the years has praised the idea of the "new" exterior being very reminiscent of the classic era design.
The new TARDIS prop looks so much nicer in real life than in the overly photoshopped costume reveal image. But the lamp is hideous. https://t.co/iM8x3qSY5Z— Matthew Toffolo (@batmanmarch) February 13, 2018
