"And this is why I am bringing her to Korea with me!” Gong-Huk said to his grandfather as he put his arms round Lowrie's shoulders, she pulled the gun back, un-cocked it, but left it poised. Gong-Huk's cheek was next to hers and she could feel him smiling.
"Doing what?” she finally realised what he had said.
"We're going to Korea for the summer,” Gong-Huk said, and suddenly planted a kiss on her cheek. Then he gently moved her out of the way to let his grandfather in. If Lowrie had her way, that man wouldn’t have got across the threshold.
"We will talk about my summer plans later,” she said, but still wouldn’t leave Gong-Huk's side, the gun tucked firmly in her belt. Lee Min-Gong eyed Lowrie like a bug that needed to be squashed. She unnerved him, the way she held that gun so confidently, there was no doubt in his mind that she would pull the trigger without a second thought, a hand so steady. He had seen experienced assassins with less confidence. A teenage girl unnerving him, Lee Min-Gong! For her to meet with an accident would be too suspicious, so as she had come into his family by marriage, that is how she would leave, to his convenience. He smiled suddenly, a smile so cruel that inwardly Lowrie took a step back, but she'd be damned if he would see that he frightened her.
"Lowrie, I don’t believe I have formally welcomed you to the family,” Lee Min-Gong said. This time Gong-Huk put his arm protectively round Lowrie's shoulders, there was something in the way his grandfather had said it that made Gong-Huk’s blood run cold.
The exams came around, Lowrie wasn’t her usual confident self, she feared that somewhere along the line she would get a 'C'. Gong-Huk felt guilty, he knew her troubles were down to his being kidnapped. His grandfather had arranged for him to have a personal tutor, which had also been offered to Lowrie who had refused.
The time came for the party. Gong-Huk had brought an MP3 in of Lowrie’s favourite Korean song and asked the DJ to play it, the look of absolute joy on her face as it came on and she bounced over to him throwing her arms around his neck. They started swaying to the music, getting closer with each beat. Gong-Huk translating the lyrics in her ear, at the second verse he lifted her up and she put her legs around his waist, he slid his hands up under her top and started stroking her back, they started grinding into each other, he whispered in her ear, she was his, she didn’t think it were the lyrics with the amount of Korean she knew, “Hyung?” she questioned.
"Don’t call me hyung. We are the same age and... I am going to be many things to you, brother is not one of them,” he said as he let her down onto the floor and started to kiss her neck, along her jaw line until eventually he found her mouth. They forgot where they were and who was watching as James grabbed Lowrie’s hand and pulled her away from Gong-Huk who tried to pull her back.
"What do you two think you are playing at? Bringing dishonour on our family!” James shouted.
"You told us to get along, Dad, and that’s what we’re doing!” Lowrie said lifting her chin defiantly, clearly drunk. James took her home.
On the way James said how disappointed he was, he didn’t think his daughter had that kind of experience. “Don’t worry Papa, I still retain my virtue if that’s what you’re worried about!” He had never known his daughter so frank or so defiant. He understood that she had been through a lot over the past few months, that she had changed, the happy go lucky girl had gone and had been replaced by a cold calculating Mata Hari. She threw up out of the car window several times and James had to carry her to her room, bringing her coffee. About a half hour later he heard her get up and go and brush her teeth.
Gong-Huk took a taxi about an hour later despite his mother's protestations that the party had been thrown for him and he should stay with his guests. James didn’t speak to him when he came through the front door, just shook his head disapprovingly. Gong-Huk went to his room, he lay on the bed, every time he closed his eyes all he could see was Lowrie’s passion filled eyes, Lowrie’s smile, Lowrie's mouth. He could taste her on his lips, he stood up and tore his shirt off deciding to go to her! Then dropped to his knees, knowing he shouldn't. He couldn’t take it anymore, she was right across the hall, three steps and he was in her room.
