The first speaker, Vince, started off by announcing that Titan Fall 2, which is being released in October, will now be on PS4 as well as XBOX. He then showed a fast-paced trailer for the new game, which in my opinion looked amazing.
The graphics were so detailed, textured and colourful. Great for lovers of action-packed, war games which are set in the future. Also, people who played the first Titan Fall will want to play this, obviously.
One of the main features of Titan Fall 2, is that there'll be a one-player, offline campaign, for players who like to have a storyline when they play. The trailer for this also looked amazing, and also had great voice-overs, characters and action-packed drama.
The next game to be announced was Madden NFL 17. It'll be on XBOX and PS4, which hopefully will be the way for all of the games announced from now on. The trailer was quite ordinary, and the graphics weren't as great as the speaker said they were.
However, the speaker talked about the history and love of the game, and to prove this, he played a short documentary about the global events that have brought people together, just because of this game.
There are 3 modes in the new Madden NFL game:
1) Challenger: This allows you to host and run your own tournaments.
2) Premiere: These are real-life events, hosted by EA.
3) EA Major: These are global gaming events, also hosted by EA, where a total of $1,000,000 will be given away to tournament winners. They said that their best, committed gamers should be rewarded.
EA announced a new scheme called 'Play to Give'. EA have partnered with HeForShe, National Centre for Women Information Technology, Code and CODE 2040 to create this scheme, which will reward you as a player, as well as disability and coding charities. It sounds like a good way of giving back.
What then followed was a very over-dramatic stage speech by Alex Hunter… who I've never heard of. Then, a dramatic trailer to go with how intense they wanted this game to look. Personally, I think that the only thing that will improve in this game is better graphics and more accurate controls. Other than that, not more was said, apart from their being a very dramatic storyline.
The next speaker then announced a program called 'EA Originals'. The purpose of this is to support small-time game developers. Money will be given to successful developers, to help them become bigger and create a better gaming experience. An example developer was brought on to the stage, to share his game. It was a very colourful and calming fantasy game. It was like if Spyro and Nightmare Before Christmas had a baby. You play as a little dragon, and travel the world made of polygons, and polygon-like creatures.
From the reactions to the new Star Wars game on Twitter, people weren't impressed that EA didn't show any gameplay, but rather, showed behind the scenes of the making of the game. I can see why that would be annoying.
Without the speaker saying goodbye, which happened a lot in the conference, a new speaker was brought on to the stage by blasting music and light. She announced a new Star Wars game, coming this year. Well, it's a new version of Star Wars Battlefront. The speaker said that the reason for this is because gamers don't want a new Star Wars, but want better content and new storylines on existing Star Wars games.
Finally, Battlefield 1 was announced. They showed a trailer which was very similar to Titan Fall. However, this one has a World War theme, while Titan Fall was set in the future.
There are 3 features that make this game unique, the speaker said:
1) Dynamic Weather: This means that the weather will randomly change, which forces the player to change strategy to complete missions.
2) Decisions: The decisions you make throughout the game will affect how the storyline is revealed.
3) Vehicles: Planes, airships and trains will now be at a player's disposal throughout the game.
Overall, some cool games were announced, but it was still a disappointing conference. More should've been announced. Also, there should've been less 'look-at-how-amazing-we-are' talk, and more talk about gaming and development in EA.
