Shortly after, Newport City Radio started the famous Maindee’s Got Talent, which was hosted by the lovely Kym Frederick, who’s a blogger, events team member and radio presenter. Her positively talkative personality got the crowd excited for the seven contestants that they’d soon be watching battle against each other.
The seven contestants were a great mix of young talent in the form of singers and dancers. The singers were Lloyd Warren, Jack Perrett, Rhys Hone, Katie Phillips and duo Milo & Andy. The dancers were duo Skits & Smurf. And finally, a band by the name of 6 Feet Short. The winner of the competition was... *drum roll*... Singing duo Shimai!
All performances were amazing and different, but to give professional critique were the official judges. These were radio presenter Adam L Davies, country singer Chloe Gosiewski and last year’s winner, singer Shaydee Nexman.
As the competition took place over the next few hours, elsewhere The Garden Stage played a variety of pop and house music, hosted by DJs Evo and Shane Elliot.
Events like Maindee Festival and The Big Splash are great to have in Newport because it gets everyone together and reminds us just how great the city is, as well as the people in it. Maindee Festival, especially, brings together the many different cultures we have in Newport, which means we can learn about different lifestyles from within our very own city.
