ew year, new me, new blog banner! I hope you like it. 2018 for me so far as been consumed with music, new and old! These past 2 months have been the most diverse months for my ears in a long while. So buckle up for a hell of a ride as I share with you the tunes that I have not been able to stop listening to this winter.
This Is Me - Keala Settle
To be honest, I could put the whole soundtrack of The Greatest Showman on here, but alas I have to just choose one and it was going to be an obvious choice for me. This song just hits me right where it hurts and empowers me. I cry almost every time I see Keala perform the song and how this didn’t win that Oscar I don’t know. I won’t go on about this song any longer because everyone knows what it is, and if you don’t, well I firmly suggest that you listen to it right now!
Slow Motion - Sir Rosevelt
Sir Rosevelt have been a band I have been obsessed with since their debut album came out at the end of last year. So obsessed in fact that I rated it as my 2nd favourite album of the whole year! Check out my Best Albums of 2017 blog here for more love and praise for this band.
Slow Motion has so many vibes going on within the track. One minute it's latino, next minute it’s gospel and then EDM! You wouldn’t think it but it works and I think it is my favourite song on the whole album. It is highly infectious and I always find myself having a little boogie to myself, even when I’m on the bus! I thoroughly and whole-heartedly recommend this band to EVERYONE!
Say Something - Justin Timberlake ft. Chris Stapleton
This song is so good that I just had to say something… I’ll go home. Timberlake’s collaboration with country star Chris Stapleton is a match made in heaven. I can’t get enough of how well their voices harmonise together. I just adore this song with its classic acoustic guitar mixed with a hint of electric guitar as well as the element of gospel that builds up throughout the song. I also think the music video is extremely clever as is it done in just one take on one camera without stopping. I love music videos like this that actually pull it off.
Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) - Fall Out Boy
I’ve been waiting for this album for a nearly a year and I was stocked when it finally dropped in January. I love most of the songs on the album so it was really hard for me to choose one of them for this blog. But this song has really gotten under my skin over the past few weeks. This is another one that I can’t help but to dance to in my room. I think it’s the perfect blend of old and new Fall Out Boy with a fab rocking guitar mixed with a electric vibe running through it too, along with epic vocals from lead singer Partrick.
So there we have it. A bit of rock, country, everything in one song and a musical. I told you it would be diverse. What songs have gotten under your skin so far in 2018? Leave them in the comments below!
