I am struggling to find words to describe this game other than WOW! and AMAZING! As a new comer to the Monster World series I started playing this game with no expectations other then the videos I had seen and pictures advertising the game and it took my breath away from the very first cut scene.
The game as the title suggests evolves around you hunting monsters in what is called The New World in the game. There are dragons, giant man-eating fish, huge do-do like creatures and many many more monsters to encounter each with their own difficulty.
Unlike most RPG type games, the character does not obtain levels and stats through playing the game directly but instead you upgrade your armour and weapons to deal more damage or enable a higher defence. You start with 14 different weapons and can play around until you find one that suits your play style. Personally, I switch between the sword and shield, heavy bow, light bow and glaive.
The game offers players the chance to follow the story line and complete quests or to go on a free roam a selected area to gather resources or just to explore and see what monster you run into. The game does not allow you to save during a quest or exit the game whilst a quest is active so be warned only start one if you have the time to finish it. Some quests do come with a time limit, so you should have an indicator of how long you need but not all of them do so be careful!
When a player dies in the game they are returned to the nearest camp site and in most quests, you are allowed to "faint" 3 times before the quest is failed however each time you are returned to the camp you have full access to your items, weapons and armour so can change things around if needed to make the fight go more in your favour.
The last thing to mention is the pet cat you get... yes I said cat. You have a cat that walks on two legs, cooks for you, carries equipment, fights along side you and heals you during fights. As I am still getting used to this I currently have no words, and for the record yes I called my cat, cat.
The game is well built, has stunning graphics and offers a lot to do even if on occasion it feels repetitive there is still new stuff to discover and do. Out of 5 stars I would award this game 4. The star it has lost is mainly due to the repetitive nature and grind that is sometimes felt during gameplay otherwise I love this game and would recommend it to any RPG fan.
