ulletproof is the newest crime caper from Sky 1, with a cast full of well-known faces from the British film and television circuit.
The show follows police partners Bishop and Pike as they hunt down criminals on the streets of London. Bad Boys meets Hot Fuzz, as fast cars, high-speed chases and firepower join to form an energetic pilot episode.
The first episode sets Pike up as stable, caring and cool in a crisis. This role is taken up by Ashley Waters, who has previously been seen in Speed Racer and Silent Witness. His character seems to have it all; a promising career, loving family and an award-winning father. But will the cracks start to appear as the series continues?
Bishop is more enigmatic. Played by Noel Clarke (Mickey from Doctor Who), Bishop is gripped by insecurities and doesn’t seem to have the same stability we see in Pike. I’m hoping to learn more about his background as the series continues.
As with most new dramas, the chemistry between the characters is still developing. There are moments of awkwardness between our two leading men, where the script becomes stilted. There are, however, also moments when an argument is in full swing and a spark is clear.
As the series continues we should see more guns, more car chases and more gadgets. The team spent eight years trying to get the show into production, so I’m expecting it to be action-packed.
Friendship and fatherhood seem to be recurring themes in the early episodes. Action scenes are interspersed by more emotive interactions which focus on the relationships between the main characters. Will this partnership be tested as the action continues?
Effortlessly cool, smart and street-wise, Bishop and Pike welcome in a new generation of cop drama. Catch up with the latest episodes on Sky 1 or Now TV.
