ecember is finally upon us and that could mean only one thing. Star Wars, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi is no less than two weeks away. The film that many of us nerds have been waiting for is finally going to blasting its way onto the silver screen with the infamous caption of “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…”
This blog is nothing more than speculation and it will contain spoilers from the seven previous films, so if you have been in exile on Dagobah and way behind the rise and fall of the Empire after the galactic civil war, then I suggest you should shoot off and do a decent amount of catching up!
However, since the release of Episode VII: The Force Awakens we have been left with many more questions than answers and we have had to wait up to two years for the next instalment in the Star Wars franchise to find out what is actually going on. In the next series of paragraphs, I will be speculating on what could be the outcome for the characters we have were introduced to in The Force Awakens and grown to love from A New Hope.
Who is Rey and why is she so powerful after having hardly any training?
This is the question that has been driving the Star Wars fandom to the point that we are nowhere near coming up with a logical answer. Is she a Skywalker or could she even be a Kenobi? Either way, her parentage was gifted with the ways of the force and I have a feeling we are to have the big revelation of who she is actually related to in the next film. I also I have a feeling she’s going to lose an arm, just to stick with the true Star Wars “poetry” that George Lucas once described his little baby.
I also do have a feeling that she is a relative of Kylo Ren in some way or another, whether they are cousins or quite possibly siblings. Again, having two siblings separated at a young age would be true Star Wars fashion, and the idea of having the two battle against one another would make it even more dramatic for both characters. So could the death of Snoke and Kylo Ren be Rey’s destiny?
Who is Supreme Leader Snoke?
He is a Supreme Leader whose name is Snoke. We just do not know any more about him, though we were treated to a nugget of information from Andy Serkis who plays the character and that is; Snoke isn’t a Sith, he’s evil and riddled in osteoporosis. So with him being evil and twisted could this be why he’s physically and emotionally a twisted person who wouldn’t want to be trifled with.
Upon studying the trailers that have been spreading across the interweb like wildfire it is pretty obvious that he is gifted in the force. So, could he actually be Rey’s father? Many people seem to think he’s what is left of Mace Windu after his supposed death at the hands of Emperor Palpatine and Anakin Skywalker in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
Whilst others believe he could be charred remains of Anakin Skywalker after his death in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. I seem to feel that there is more of a mystery surround the Supreme Leader of the First Order. Rey fascinates me but I’m more preoccupied with finding out about Snoke. Why is he using Kylo Ren for his power?
General Leia Organa
After the sudden death of our beloved Carrie Fisher, I have a feeling they’re going to give our favourite Princess a heroic death scene. Saying that from the trailers I can see Kylo Ren being the one who kills her with the destruction of her ship. They’re going to give her a heroic death and I can see myself being an emotional mess for the first time for a Star Wars film and in true Fisher fashion she’s going to go down kicking and screaming and I think she’ll appreciate that.
Not forgetting the fact no-one from the original Trilogy is safe after the death the legendary Han Solo, so I think there’s going to be more killings off of our favourite characters.
I have a hunch that Luke has followed has his father’s footsteps on joining the dark side. After all, it was his destiny. Luke’s come a long way since Return of the Jedi and where Episode VII left off was Luke was searching for the first Jedi Temple. Has he found it? That’s the question! I think he has but what he’s discovered isn’t pleasant.
Also, all the trailers and posters seem to be pointing towards Luke becoming a Sith, could this be what Mark Hamill was heavily against upon reading the script. However, I can see Disney taking the character of Luke down two avenues. 1) He’s either going to become a Sith or IS a Sith or 2) They’re going to kill off the character and have him as an Obi-Wan Kenobi kind of character from the original Trilogy. I have a feeling that either way Episode VIII has all the answers.
Rumours... rumours EVERYWHERE! There have been debates whether we’re going to see the spirit of Anakin plaguing Kylo Ren in the next film. Could Anakin be tempting Kylo Ren to re-join the light after becoming one of the Knights of Ren or could Anakin be a part of a higher power? I just don't see what they're going to be able to do with the character of Anakin as I feel like his story has been told. All I can say is time will tell...
Star Wars, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi hits cinemas on December 15th 2017.
