he Flash is the second entry into the DCTV universe, a more lighthearted spin off after the Arrow got an amazing second season. Our hero of the show is the forensic scientist Barry Allen, who's played by Grant Gustin which you may know from Glee.
My knowledge of the scarlet speedster before I’ve seen the Flash series is that he keeps an eye on the twin cities Central City and Keystone City. Barry's character in the comic is actually very similar to his depiction in the show, but more intelligent. His super speed is not only running fast, but thinking fast or even moving his atoms fast as to be able to pass through objects like walls.
Unlike the Green Arrow, the Flash has more notable villains like:- Gorilla Grodd, a super intelligent telepathic gorilla; the Rouge's Gallery, a group of noble thieves who only want to steal things and not kill anyone, mostly for the thrill of it and fighting the flash. There's also many evil speedsters, from Flash's nemesis, the Reverse Flash, to the Black Racer, death itself.
The show starts with the origin myth of the Flash superworld. Barry, our hero, visits world renowned scientist Dr Harrison Wells and his new scientific invention called the particle accerator designed to create dark matter. Barry has to go back to the office to collect something. Soon after he arrives a massive explosion comes from the particle accerator, causing a dark matter wave to go over both cities.
The dark matter wave causes people to have their own DNA overwritten, creating heroes and villains with superpowers, like Firestorm, the atomic hero or Weather Wizard, a villain who has powers over the weather. The explosion causes some lightning to hit Barry and makes him dissolve into numerous chemicals and a near fatal coma coma.
The Flash's entrance to the DCTV gives us some big name villains like Captain Cold and Gorilla Grodd who has good CGI considering the budget, while giving some light to some more unknown villains like Blackout, who was a one off character in the flashpoint comic and Multiplex, who's a firestorm villain.
The first season of Flash starts a bit slow but it does get a lot better the more episodes you watch, with the mystery being great and the way they show the superpowers on a TV show with not too high a budget considering good CGI is going to be expensive. Overall, if you only had to watch one DCTV show, this should be the one to watch.
