ennywise the dancing clown is back, and he's as terrifying as ever! This week myself and a few friends took a trip to the cinema to watch the new IT and despite what most people are saying, I think it was ten times better than the original. Everything seemed rushed in the original and that was because they were trying to tell two stories at once. Not only that but Pennywise or "IT" is suppose to be something not of this world and as brilliant as Tim Curry was in the original, he didn't look like an alien, he just looked like a normal creepy murderous human clown.
Obviously, I know that back in 1990 they didn't have access to the things we have now and that's one of the things that makes the new movie so much better than the original. Not only that, but the casting was so much better in this film. Finn Wolfhard from Netflix's Stranger Things plays Richie and is one of my favourite child actors of today. But the actors who played Mike (Chosen Jacobs) and Ben (Jeremy Ray Taylor) are also better than the original actors to play the part.
This time they're doing it right. Instead of telling part of the kids story and then jumping to when they were adults and then switching back to when they were kids, they just concentrated on telling the children's' story. The new movie also goes into more detail of scenes that in the original movie only had about 2 minutes screen time and makes them more scary for both the viewer and the character.
The fight at the end between The Losers Club and Pennywise was just a fantastic scene for me. Where in the original film, the fight lasts around five to ten minutes, in the new film it lasts a good 20 minutes.
As for the next film, I'm really looking forward to it. If it's anything like the original film then we can expect Mike and Stan to be killed off. In the original film Mike is killed by Pennywise and Stan takes his own life in the bath tub. But there is a lot of speculation on who will play the adult characters and while there is a lot of rumours floating around at the moment, the actors I would like to see in the film are Idris Elba as Mike, Kate Winslet as Beverly, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Stan, Christian Bale as Bill, Chris Pratt as Ben and Jake Gyllenhaal as Eddie.
All in all, the film was great and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes horror/thriller films and as a film that scared Stephen King himself, it must be good!
