etflix has recently announced a series that acts as a prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson film The Dark Crystal. To many of us the 1980’s gave us a vast selection of fantasy films. Whether it was the works by Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones’ Labyrinth or Henson’s The Dark Crystal. The use of puppets and explore strange new worlds grabbed us and captivated us from an early age. So when Netflix announced the news of a prequel series for the 1982 film being excited was an understatement. Finding out what happened before the Gelflings became an endangered species has always been an interest of mine.
The Dark Crystal hit cinemas in the Christmas of 1982, directed by Frank Oz and the infamous Jim Henson the film featured (at the time) ground breaking animatronics and imaginative creatures from the legendary Henson Workshop. Even though the film earned a vast audience of fans it was hardly smashed the box-office. However us fans have endured enough unanswered questions Netflix has granted us with a series. I know nerds and fantasy lovers alike, control your screams!
Netflix has announced that the series that will act as a prequel will consist of 10 Episodes. If anything judging by their series of Stranger Things and Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events this series is going to be exciting and entertaining. If the creation of Jim Henson’s worlds aren’t stooped in mystery enough, this series looks promising and I’m “patiently” waiting for it to become available for viewing. I need to emphasise of the “patiently.”
The Dark Crystal is centred round a mysterious object that is dominating the Tolkien-esque world and its up to two of the last Gelflings in the world to return peace and balance to the word before the evil Skesis reign supreme for all eternity. Though Netflix haven’t announced a release date as of yet but I can see it being either at the end of the year or early next year. Trailer also teases a brief glimpse of a Skesis in armour and without further ado here’s the trailer if you haven’t see it yet!
