he put the car in first and shot the red light. She saw him jump back in his car and take up pursuit. She couldn’t outrun his car, it looked like some powerful posh thing and she was in a one litre Peugeot. As she hit the dual carriageway, he pulled in behind her. Was he really going to do this?
He got closer, so close she couldn’t see his headlights in her rear view mirror, she put her foot on the accelerator. Thankfully the road was empty. As she hit 70 he pulled in front of her and slammed his brakes on. She was quick enough that she didn’t hit him but only just. When she tried to overtake again, he swerved his car in front of her and wouldn’t let her past, so she resigned herself to stay behind him. He started to slow down, she slowed, he slowed, she slowed until they were doing 20 miles an hour down the dual carriageway.
Eventually a very bemused police car pulled alongside them. She shrugged her shoulders and motioned to the car in front, the police car put his lights on and pulled in front of Todd motioning him to pull over, as they stopped she kept going.
When she was clear she put her foot on the accelerator, it wouldn’t take long before they realised he was their boss's son and wouldn’t detain him. She was right moments later his headlights were in her rear view mirror, she pulled off at her exit still doing 70, as she got to the roundabout she more or less prayed nothing was coming and swung the car near enough on two wheels round it to her exit. Moments later she was pulling up outside her house, she didn’t wait to see if he was anywhere around she bolted in, locking the door behind her.
She had literally just locked the door when her phone went off, a private number, she thought t was probably the police so she answered it,
“You are one crazy bitch do you know that?”
“How did you get my number?” she asked with a shaky voice that betrayed her fear.
“I always get what I want” he sneered and hung up. Carmel was now really afraid, she slid down the front door shaking and crying.
Todd checked the front of his car outside of her house, not a mark, he hadn’t really imagined there would be, he had only pushed her. A few minutes later he saw a light come on in the house, so that was her room? Now he knew. He pulled away.
The following morning Carmel went into college intent on seeing if she could transfer some of her lessons to evening classes even though that would interfere with her jobs, as she turned in the main hall she came face to face Todd Steadman. She started to shake.
