t is under a week until The Big Splash returns to Newport with two days of free, family friendly street theatre. Visitors can expect an action-packed weekend full of dance, comedy, drama and immersive experiences.
The Big Splash is, without doubt, one of the biggest annual events in Newport. This year returns with another great line up of acts on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July. The city centre will be transformed by a series of entertainment zones, which include; The Riverfront Theatre, Friars Walk, and the river walkway between the University and the Red Wave.
There is a detailed timetable of what to expect when and where, meaning you can get to the spot you want in plenty of time. These schedules can be collected from the Riverfront or downloaded from the website.
Act announcements have been slowly being released since May, however, with a packed schedule it’s best to expect a few surprises. Sometimes the small and unpublicised acts can be just as impressive as the headliners.
I’ve been attending The Big Splash for several years, and personally, I prefer to immerse myself in the event and simply see what I stumble upon. Certain acts draw a big crowd so remaining flexible can lead to a more relaxed experience.
What ever you want to get from the day, the Big Splash really does have something for everyone!
