In 2003 Dope Stars Inc. formed and before the year was out they’d released their first recording, 10,000 Watts of Artificial Pleasures EP (2003). At this time I was attending my first college and knew nothing of the Italian band, but this would soon change.
Two years later they released their debut album, ://Neuromance (2005). The only single to be released never featured in the original track listing for the album, but later appeared as the first track on the bonus disk a year later. For me 2005 was a good year as I finished working at Boots, attended jury service, and then started working at Superdrug. I also had a good year writing songs with my band however that band never really took off in the way I’d hoped it would.
The following year the band released their second EP, Make a Star (2006), and their second album, Gigahearts (2006), both towards the end of the year. For me 2006 was a year of frustration as I spent the majority of the year working in a call centre. However during the summer I started seeing someone – who had a penchant for music of the Industrial variety, I liked industrial music but they got me into bands who, at the time, were underground or up and coming - and attended my second college. This is where I cultivated my interest and became more interested in the genre.
In 2007 I signed up to a website called Vampire Freaks on 1 February. This is where I set up a personal profile for myself and found the majority of the bands that I still currently listen to today.
Dope Stars Inc. took a break for a few years but then came back with another two releases, Criminal Intents/Morning Star EP (2009) and 21st Century Slave (2009). Meanwhile back in Wales, I was just getting over my dark period and trying to write new music but I wasn’t feeling creative. However a surprising album by an indie rock band got me through that, but I’m saving that for my next blog.
Ultrawired (2011) was the band’s next release and after this I became too busy to keep up to date with the music industry. However their fifth and sixth albums, TeraPunk (2015) and ://Decrypted_Files (2016) respectively, were released in the year I started volunteering at Newport City Radio, went to Cyprus with them, started working at Cineworld and transferred my solo project into a band, and the following year (2016) was when I met my friends and Passionworks in Finland and getting my band ready for recording in the new year.
Well this is it for today, come back in seven days to see who I’ll be writing about next. I’ll be travelling up north to Sweden, so any guesses as to what band I’ll be writing about?
