"I love you Lowrie, and I had intended to do this properly, but with us leaving for Seoul next week. I know I can't make you believe me, but please think back to what I said to our parents this morning, I always intended to marry you, before I kissed you in the club," he squeezed his eyes closed, was she going to refuse him?
It was her turn to pull him into a hug, "I will marry you Gong-Huk, for two reasons, firstly I love you and I hope you love me, secondly, because I feel the overwhelming urge to keep you safe and protect you." He hushed her with a kiss and while he was kissing her he slid his grandmother's engagement ring onto her finger, laying her back on the bed,"saranghae, Lowrie," he breathed into her skin between kisses, "saranghae, saranghae," until his mouth found hers. They made love there on the bed and Hae-Lo, who had been listening at the door, left them to it. Lowrie had just saved her son's life for the second time, that kind of debt could never be repaid. Tomorrow they would be married and she wouldn’t have to endure this kind of disgrace again. Gong-Huk had been conceived out of wedlock because his father had forced himself on her, but sex outside of marriage was a sin, and this was the last time she would endure it off these two. She made her way downstairs, called the registry office and booked the following morning. If they wanted a big ceremony later they could arrange it themselves, right now, the important thing was getting the certificate which said they were married in the eyes of the law.
When they came downstairs, Hae-Lo told them without emotion that they would be married the following morning and she would appreciate it if they would keep their hands off each other till then. She bit back her anger and thanked Lowrie and apologised for her having a rushed wedding out of necessity instead of the beautiful ceremony every young bride should have. Lowrie did feel cheated, but there was simply nothing she could do, they had to get married as soon as possible. Thankfully they had all the documents they needed. Hae-Lo, Lowrie and Gong-Huk went and bought the rings that afternoon. James as yet didn’t even know that the following morning he would be one of four people attending his daughter's wedding, the others being his wife, his daughter and his son-in-law to be.
James had managed to save the wedding by getting a cake and a bouquet. He still felt anger toward his wife and son-in-law that they had put Lowrie in this position, Lowrie on the other hand seemed unaffected by the incongruous actions of the Lee's. The day before she had left though, she had some amazing news, earlier in the year she had received a conditional offer from Oxford depending on her grades, she hadn’t achieved the required grades, but after a plea from her tutors at the college and an explanation of the events, Lowrie had retained her place at Oxford and would be starting in September. James knew this would put a strain on the marriage, but his daughter's education came first, and at the slightest sign that Gong-Huk wasn’t fully supporting her, James laid the law down with a heavy fist slamming it into the table when Gong-Huk started talking about having a baby. Lowrie had smiled at James' outburst, "Papa, since I can remember, it has been my dream to get a law degree from Oxford, I am not going to let anything spoil that dream, babies can wait." and she had kindly laid her hand on Gong-Huk's, and he had smiled and lifted her hand to his lips. It had been such a tender gesture that James couldn’t help but be moved.
A few days later their plane landed at Seoul. She even seemed happy to be in Seoul, knowng full well Hae-Lo's father's intentions. They alighted the plane and went to collect their luggage. Gong-Huk was smiling broadly until a couple of good looking boys walked past and showed a little too much interest in Lowrie. His arm went very possessively round her shoulders. He followed the boys with a steely glare over the top of his sunglasses until they looked away. When he looked round Lowrie was smiling at him with a rasied eyebrow, "Aishhhhhhh, looking at my wife like that!" They laughed. Gong-Huk kept his arm around her shoulders and she around his waist, Hae-Lo laughed, "Wait till we get out into the country where they've never seen a foreigner!" They waited at the main entrance, two long black Mercedes pulled up and Lee Min-Gong alighted the first, evidently unimpressed that Gong-Huk and Lowrie were stood wrapped in each other's arms. There was no way Hae-Lo would have given Min-Gong chance to put a stop to the wedding, so she hadn't warned him it was taking place, now she had to face his fury.
