I don’t believe that you always have to have a detailed plan for getting what you really want. Just believing that it will come about is what it really takes: that, and noticing the signposts along the way. When you spot an opportunity, take it, even if you’re not sure where it will lead you. “One thing leads to another,” my mum always used to say.
Richard Branson famously said, “If someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you’re not sure you can do it – say yes, then, learn how to do it later.”
What you shouldn’t be thinking about is all the things you DON’T want. You see, what we think about, comes about. Whatever we focus on grows in strength and reality.
Have you ever noticed that if your day starts off badly, maybe you oversleep or you trip on a shoe getting out of bed, annoying things just keep on happening? There’s extra bad traffic on the way to work, the bus is late, you forget to pick up your keys, and you spill your coffee and so on and so on. The whole day gets progressively worse and all because one thing went wrong and you allowed yourself to dwell on it. Instead, you should have laughed it off and focussed on all the brilliant things that you planned for the day ahead.
Take a look at your friends on social media. I guarantee that the people who continually post bad news, share distressing and horrific pictures have miserable lives. Misery and unhappiness is what they fill their lives with. It consumes them and they leave no room in their lives for joy. Then, take a look at the people who share jokes, funny and cute pictures on social media. They are probably the ones who want to tell the world about their wonderful plans and how much they love their friends and family. They make their little pieces of good news into something brilliant, celebrate the smallest successes and because of that, the small bits of brilliance grow into awesome amounts of wonderment. They also take pleasure in doing what they can to help other people to succeed in new or established ventures.
Why anyone would want to wallow in misery is beyond me. We all have something in our lives to be grateful for. It may be the eyes to be able to read this or the legs to be able to walk down a leafy lane, ears to hear the birds singing. If you have someone in your life that cares for you, you are truly blessed.
So make a fresh start today. Stop dwelling on what has gone wrong and what could go wrong and concentrate on what is going to go right: the dreams you are going to fulfil. Start your list of ambitions right now. Go on; pick up a pen and paper. Write down some small dreams and some big dreams, they all have the same value. Read that list aloud every day. Pin it on a wall where you will see it often and give yourself a pat on the back each time you achieve one of your goals.
What is stopping you from trying to reach your goal….fear of failing? When you were a small child and you wanted to learn to walk, you failed many, many times. You kept falling over but you didn’t care, you got up and tried again and again until you succeeded. Then, you began to run. Be that child once more!
Everyone who has ever made something of themselves has failed at some point. Most happily married couples have some failed relationships behind them. Most successful business people have lots of stories of failure before they finally made it. Do you know that Walt Disney was bankrupt FIVE times before he eventually made a success of his animated films! Imagine if he had given up after the first time: no Disneyland, no Mickey Mouse! It doesn’t bear thinking about does it?
Success means something different to each of us. Thank goodness we all want something different from life. There’s enough success, money and happiness for all of us, we just have believe it and take action. Dreaming is essential but so is action.
It’s your life, make it as brilliant at you want to.
