This year my experience of prom was a lot better. The prom held at the end of Year 13 was organised by the head students in my year group with help from some members of staff at our school. The big night was held in one long room which ensured that there was room for tables and a dance floor, while also avoiding the dreaded 'lost friend' scenarios that can arise when navigating a maze of rooms.
We were also fed, with a main course (which was something that I hadn’t tried before and I really liked it!) and a desert, during which everyone was sat on large tables with their friendship group, and a bar to provide drinks.
During prom everyone in the year group really seemed to all get along, whether that be the girls complimenting one other on their dresses and the boys offering each other a drink. The teachers that attended also joined in and the atmosphere between the students and teachers was different to that at school, as it was friendlier and a lot more celebratory.
It is also nice to see members of your year group all dressed up, with the boys in their suits and most girls managing to find a good dress suitable for both prom and clubbing afterwards. My friends and I decided to go for more traditional ‘prom’ dresses, and getting all dressed up certainly helped me to feel more grown up in a way.
Overall, the Year 13 prom was a very fun evening and a good send off for the high school year group. I hope everyone who has been to prom had a nice time, whether you’re in Year 13 or Year 11.
